Supporting Free Press and the Rights of Maui County Workers Employed atThe Maui News

On Friday, September 11th, Councilmember Yuki Lei Sugimura has posted a resolution to support the Maui News and its workers after Sugimura learned that West-Virginia-based Ogden Newspapers, Inc. is seeking to have mainland workers to edit stories and design the pages of the newspaper relied on by Maui, Molokai and Lanai residents daily local news. “I believe this would be missing the local voice, understanding of our special cultural aloha spirit” said Sugimura. “I support local families, local jobs and the newspaper is the thread of the community to keep us connected.”

Resolution “Supporting the Vital Role of the Free Press and the Rights of Maui County Workers Employed at the Local Daily Newspaper” is posted on the Council agenda to send a message to the West-Virginia based newspaper that we care about Maui News and its workers.
